Catch Yamagata
So here are are a few of the not so fresh FISHES we caught in this year's TOYcunt 2012.
In keeping with SSM! customs and traditions, most of the catch were bought for the low low cost of 50 bucks or less
(P20-P30)
ChiMiChaNga - Very Good, no seriously!Eric Powell is the shiznits.
Gekiga - Good-Bye was the best damn thing I have ever read.
How To Draw - Joe Kubert-ized!
Comics - Mostly one shots but the art is pretty good. And a great variety of style is present within the whole newspaper.
Beautiful Killer - Visually stunning not too sure about the storytelling though.
Batman Shaman - We liked it a lot...
Predator Jungle Tales - The first story was OK, the best one from within the book. The second half was....I dunno, how does "GET TO THE CHOPPAH" without the GOVERNATOR sound to ya?
Moebius' Airtight Garage - (Recommended by Benj)
By the LATE and GREAT french artist, MOEBIUS.
The art was pretty tight. And the colors...my god, We loved the colors.
Here's a glance on how the entire book kinda, sorta looked like.
Stray Bullets/Matrix - Haven't read it yet. There were too many panels on these things. Makes it kinda tedious to read.
Thunderbolts - The art is good, haven't read the entire thing but the BRUTE character looks interesting. So is his muse.Rather than amuse at the originality of it all, we couldn't help but be reminded of this odd pairing instead.
Jazz Batman- Not so good....no, not at all!
and last but not the least,
Chain Gang War - A pretty decent book, just your typical AZRAEL/BATMAN story. Lots of punching and kicking and what not. The dialogues are kinda cheesy though but weirdly enough, that's what I liked about the entire book. And the JACK KIRBY tribute was pretty awesome, LOOKSIES!
Typhoid - What we have here is a typical typhoid mary story. The art was up to our taste while the story telling is pretty much your typical pulp material.
In the end, we still have to give it up for THIS one.
We love the look and feel of the story. And the art was pretty splendidly done by
ERIC POWELL.
Ya know ERIC POWELL from THE GOON(Thank you for pointing that out, "the king")?
Yhep, that ERIC and not THIS one!
Favorite part of the book was this scene right HERE.
So congratulations ChiMiChaNga, you've made it through the grueling SSM! panel of judges.
Join us again next week for yet another round of our comics round-up.
& of we go into the wild blue yonder(our room), dreaming about easy money...
